Each point of the star is a 10-hole triangle corresponding to the starting point of a player, where there are 10 matching colored marbles. The triangle directly across from the player or the opposing triangle is known as the home of the player.

Who starts first is decided by a coin flip. Players take turns to shift their pieces around the board. They will switch their piece to every empty hole next door during a player's turn.
